SAFETY CHECK LIST

• Always wear a reflective vest on State roads; a reflective vest or bright shirt or jacket is recommended on Town roads.
• Always wear gloves when picking up trash.
• Wear long sleeves and pants to avoid scrapes, cuts and germs.
• Wear boots or durable shoes.
• Do NOT wear ear phones.
• Only collect trash – do NOT collect brush, leaves, carcasses, dog feces or suspected toxic or hazardous waste (inform zone captain of such).

HELPFUL TIPS

• Pace yourself.
• Work one side of the road at a time.
• Keep vehicles on the same side of the road as the volunteers.
• Watch footing when working on slopes.
• Avoid over exertion – take breaks – drink water.
• Make sure children are kept in a ‘safety zone’ – preferably between 2 parked vehicles or between at least 2 adults.
